FAQs

Q: Where is Flower-Girl.ca located? Can I visit the studio?
A:
Flower-Girl.ca is located in a home-based studio in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. We ship world-wide.  Clients are welcome by appointment only. Student class times are as scheduled.

Q: Do you have items for sale and ready to ship?
A: Yes. Most items are made to order but we do have seasonal pieces for sale through Etsy.

Q: I would like to order clay flowers for my wedding. How far in advance should I place my order?
A: In most cases, we ask that you place your order at least 2-3 months in advance (taking shipping times into account). We require a 50% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking your order. Please call or make contact to ensure there is enough time to create your floral needs.

Q: I don’t live in Newmarket and won’t be able to meet with you. Can I still order pieces for my wedding?
A:
Absolutely! If you do not live in the Greater Toronto Area, we will correspond with you via EMAIL and telephone calls.

Q: What if I plan to use real flowers?
A: If your mind is set on having a fresh bouquet or arrangement, it can be duplicated as a replica/keepsake in clay! This will provide you with an heirloom that will look much better than a preserved piece, last longer and it will be less expensive than traditional preservation!

Q: How are the clay flowers made?
A: Base colours are mixed together to match or coordinate with any color and shade desired. The individual petals are shaped and textured by hand and using various tools. The petals are assembled to create each single blossom. Since these flowers are all hand-made, we don’t use any “cutters”. Some veining tools are used to add texture to some petals and many flowers are finished with hand-painted details.

Q: I would like to “try” a class. Do you offer trial classes?
A: Yes. It is best to try a workshop where you make and take a completed project. They are typically 2-2.5 hours and cost between $30-50 (depending on the project). This fee includes all the materials necessary to complete the project.

Q: How do I become a Member of the DECO Clay Craft Academy?
A: Membership consists of 2 curriculums (C1 & C2), each containing 10 projects. Once you finish both curriculums you may apply to become a Certified Instructor of the DECO Clay Craft Academy.

Q: What does “C1 & C2” mean? What are the benefits of becoming a member?
A: “Member C1 & C2” refers to Curriculum 1 & 2. These are classes that are taught in studio and are membership classes. Attendance is by appointment only according to the class schedule. Membersl receive special discounts on clay, tools and supplies. Members also receive advanced invitations to workshops.

Q: If I become a member, do I need to follow the curriculum?
A: Yes. You must follow the DECO curriculum. It will give you a comprehensive understanding of clay crafting using the specialized learning based curriculum.

Q: I don’t live in Ontario or cannot get to classes. Do you do correspondence courses?
A: Unfortunately, we do not offer these types of lessons. Creating flowers from clay uses hands-on techniques. It is not possible to teach via correspondence.
